Two-story Angela Guest House, on Wellington Road in the center of town, has 15 rooms. Reduced monthly rates are offered. Kitchen facilities may be available (ask). It's pleasant for the price.
Misa's Guest House or "The Green House", on Mateialona Road near Queen Salote Memorial Hall, has 12 rooms with shared bath (bring mosquito coils). Cooking facilities and a TV lounge are provided. The Mu'a and Hihifo buses stop right across the street from the guesthouse if you'd like to organize your own island tour.
Quiet, friendly Moana Beach House, 1.5 km west of the palace on Vuna Road, is a wooden building facing the beach with four rooms with shared bath, four three-bed dorms, and three rooms with private bath. Breakfast and dinner are served for an additional charge, or you can cook. There's a pleasant lounge and TV room.
Toni's Guest House at Tofoa, four km south of town. There are several green, yellow, and blue houses containing rooms with shared bath. Dormitory accommodations are the norm here. Double rooms with private bath are available for slightly more than the dorm but they must be reserved in advance as they're almost always taken. Two family bungalows are available for groups of up to five. Communal cooking facilities, a library, and lounge are provided. A fish pond is in the garden.
Toni's is a good place to meet other travelers as guests swap stories around the kava bowl every evening. The full day minibus tour is really good if Toni himself is your guide. Toni also provides airport transfers for a reasonable fee. Don't believe airport taxi drivers who tell you this place is closed or full: They only want to take you elsewhere in order to collect a commission—insist on being driven straight to Toni's.
